Genesis 12 :1-9 v 4 “So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.”
The Lord told Abram to leave your native land, your relatives and your father’s family and go to the land that I will show you. So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.” Abram travelled through the land as far as Shechem. There he set up camp. Then the Lord said to Abram I will give this land to your descendants. Abram built an altar there and worshiped the lord. He travelled south and west and East towards the Negev.

The journey from Haran to Canaan was approximately 400 miles or 640km, quite a long walk which would have taken many months. Abram trusted God throughout the journey and eventually God appeared to him, and Abram built an alter and worshiped God. Then he continued his journey as far as the Negev, which was a desert.
Not everyone is called by God to take on a momentous journey like Abram. But we are all called by God, to answer His call, and trust Him as we travel along the path, He has chosen for us. To trust God and for Him to shine for others to see in our lives usually means going outside our own comfort zone and leaving things behind that we hold dear. It might not mean leaving your community but making friends with new people in your community. It might mean staying close to home to support immediate family and not visiting extended family. It might mean not having a vacation but spending the time and money on the needy around you. Giving up the things that the world values for things that God values. What is God calling you to do today?
Prayer: Heavenly God open our hearts to your call today and show us where we need to go for your glory. Amen.
