Romans 4: 13-25 v 20 Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.”
God’s promise to Abraham was not based on obedience to God’s law, but on a right relationship with God that comes by faith. For the law always brings punishment. (The only way to avoid breaking the law is to have no law to break.) So the promise is received by faith. It is given as a free gift. Abraham is the father of all who believe. This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing. Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever He promises. Jesus was handed over to die for our sins, and He was raised to life to make us right with God.

There are many words of wisdom in this passage, but the repeated theme is of broken laws and what needs to be done to fix it. How many laws have you broken and been punished for? Most recently I was caught by a speed camera going faster than I should in a school zone and had to pay a fine. I am pretty good at talking about my shortcomings instead of the positive impact I have on those around me. How often have you brought something because it came with a free gift ? That is a powerful promise. God doesn’t give up on us but then there are the smaller laws that we break. Laws made for us to live a healthy life are broken. We get too busy and become ill, instead of living a balanced life. We eat too much and our clothes don’t fit so well, the list can go on. We need help. And so our loving God sent Jesus who helped us as he was handed over to die because of our sins, because we kept on breaking laws. Then a powerful God raised Him back to life to make us right with God.
Accept your free gift today of salvation from a God who can create new things out of nothing and want’s a right relationship with us.
Prayer: Heavenly Lord, mother and father to us all, strengthen our faith today so we can live in the hope of your love for us despite our brokenness. Amen.
