Genesis 21:8-21 v v12 But God told Abraham. Do not be upset over the boy and your servant. Do whatever Sarah tells you, for Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted. “
Abraham prepared a feast as his son Isaac was about to be weaned. However, the servant and her son Ishmael were making fun of Isaac. Sarah did not like it and did not want to share the inheritance that belonged to Isaac. But God told Abraham. Do not be upset over the boy and your servant. Do whatever Sarah tells you, for Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted. The servant and her son were sent away but despite the human provisions given to them by Abraham they ran out in the desert and both prepared to die. They both sat and cried. God heard them and responded by opening Hagar’s eye to a well and she was able to sustain her boy to adulthood and arrange a marriage for him.
We see in this early passage from the Old Testament, that God has actual conversations with Abraham. That the worries of the humans are concerns of God and He has a plan. God’s plan remains the same, but man’s plans require adjustment. Abraham has to say goodbye to both his son and Hagar. He provides them with what he thinks will be adequate for a journey to a new place. But the provisions ran out. Again, we see that God is watching over Hagar and her son as He hears their cries. He provides a miracle of a well with water and both survive to the next chapter of their lives.

God has a plan. Humans do their best but fall short. They cry out to God. He hears and intervenes and the plan continues moving forward.
Is this pattern familiar to you? Even when God seems to have a clear plan, things get in the way? God wants our complete trust in Him. We need His help and seem to need constant reminders of this. But ultimately if the plan is from God things work out.
Heavenly Father thank you for constantly watching over us to make sure the plans you have for us occur. Enable us to hear your prompts along the journey of life so that we can ask and accept your help along the way, in Jesus name we pray. Amen.
