What you do!

Psalm 86: 1-10, 16-17 v 8 “No pagan god is like you, O Lord. None can do what you do!”

Answer me, for I need your help. Protect me, save me, be merciful, give me happiness. I am devoted to you, I serve and trust you, I call on you constantly, hear my urgent cry! No pagan god is like you, O Lord. None can do what you do!” For you are great and perform wonderful deeds. You alone are God. Look down and have mercy on me. Send me a sign of your favor. You O Lord, help and comfort me.

King David who wrote this psalm was aware of the problems that believing in God can bring. His wife thought he was weird when he danced in the streets in joy of the Lord. His son wanted to kill him to gain his kingdom and his own weaknesses caused him to use his power to kill one of his own valued soldiers because he had a beautiful wife. He knew that his only hope was his belief in a God like no other God. At this time in his life, he wanted a sign that despite all he had and had done, he needed God’s comfort.

“For you are great and perform wonderful deeds. You alone are God. Psalm 86 v 10

As we look at our own lives. I am sure there are things that we have done of which we are not proud. That despite reading devotionals, attending bible studies and time spent in prayer we still feel in need of a sign that God is with us and can comfort us in the way only God can. We must do what we as humans can do and let God do what He does.

Prayer: Almighty God who offers us comfort whatever we are doing in our lives look down on us and have mercy. Show us the happiness that is inside of us as we trust and serve you. Amen.
