Love deeply

Genesis 24: 34-38, 42-49, 58-67 v 67b”He loved her deeply, and she was a special comfort to him after the death of his mother.”

Abraham’s servant told the brother of Rebekah the story of how he came to the well seeking a wife for his master’s son. His master was wealthy, had only one son, born when his wife was very old. After praying that the women who approached the well and responded to his request for a drink would be the one, Rebekah was the answer to his prayer. Rebekah was asked if she was willing to go with the servant. She replied yes. Isaac, on seeing the return of the camels when out for a walk and meditating, went over to them. Rebekah asked who was approaching and when the servant told her it was Isaac, she covered her face with a veil. The servant again recounted the story of everything he had done. Isaac brought Rebekah into his mother’s tent, and she became his wife. He loved her deeply and she was a special comfort to him after the death of his mother.

“So they called Rebekah, “Are you willing to go with this man?” they asked her. And she replied , “Yes I will go.” Genesis 24 v 58

The connection between a husband and a wife cannot be seen, for some it is instant, as soon as they meet, they know that there is something special between them. For others it grows with time. God’s plan for Isaac meant finding a wife from outside the area where he grew up, so not a childhood sweetheart or the girl next door. But he loved her deeply and she was a comfort to him. Ultimately when you find the right partner in life it is a relationship that has mutual benefits.

As you continue your story with God and your partner by your side, or if you are still looking trust God and pray.

Prayer: Holy God who is love, thank you for the important loving relationships in our lives. Help us to love deeply in the name of Jesus Christ your son. Amen.
