Romans 7: 15-25a 24 “Oh what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?”
I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but instead I don’t do it. I know what I am doing is wrong, which means I believe the law is good. It is sin living in me that does it. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. It is sin living in me that does it. There is another power within me that is at war with my mind. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?”
I have been there too many times to count. Gossiping with a group of friends when I know I shouldn’t. Passing the homeless and the poor on the street when I have money in my pocket, given to me by God, to share. Maybe it could be used for drugs, or alcohol to feed an addiction, but why can’t I trust God to use it for good? Eating that extra cookie instead of going for a walk. I am sure you can quickly come up with a list too. So, what is the answer? Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?”

Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. Simply we can pray when we are tempted to eat maybe a breath prayer. Breathe in “God is Good”, breathe out, “He provides all I need.” Maybe we can give not just money but also a prayer for the use of the money for good. Remember that in all we do Jesus Christ is right beside us helping us to turn away from our sinful nature which is totally under our control and turn to Him.
Prayer: heavenly Father who sent your Son Jesus Christ to help us to be the best we can be, show us ways to turn away from our sinful nature and turn to Him. Amen.
