Twins

Genesis 25: 19-34v 27 “As the boys grew up, Esau became a skillful hunter. He was an outdoorsman, but Jacob had a quiet temperament, preferring to stay at home. “

Isaac married Rebecka when he was forty years old. She eventually became pregnant when he was 60. The movement of her baby in utero was intense which worried her. She had twin boys, very different at birth, who remained that way. “As the boys grew up, Esau became a skillful hunter. He was an outdoorsman, but Jacob had a quiet temperament, preferring to stay at home. “Because Esau was a good hunter his father preferred him. Jacob, a more sensitive boy, was loved more by his mother. Esau came home one day hungry. Jacob persuaded Esau to give away his rights as the firstborn to him. Esau showed contempt for his rights as the first born.

“One day when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau arrived home from the wilderness exhausted and hungry.”

God knows us even before we are born, and this is clearly illustrated in this passage in Genesis. The twins were fighting even in the womb! I remember when I first left home and did a bible study about predestination. I did not want to hear that my days were designated, that my purpose was already decided before I was born. I wanted to be in control of my life, to see where I could go. To finish my education and go out into the world!! I was a little upset about the words in the bible that showed me that God had a plan for my life. Just as Esau did not appreciate the rights he had just because he was the firstborn. He gave them away to satisfy his immediate needs. I left the UK and travelled first to the West Coast of Canada where I met my husband and then to the East, where we settled in a small town in Ontario. I worked for a while with someone who was a twin. Her sister lived many miles from her home, but they had a connection, they would call each other just when they needed support, she told me it was because they shared time in the womb. I now realize that our connection with God starts as he says in the womb. That despite our disregard for His guidance at times in our lives He is with us in all we do. I can look back and see it. I know it now. It is a connection that supports me in all I do, just as the good people he puts around me support me too, and for which I am thankful.

Prayer: Heavenly Father thank you for being there for us always and forever. Thank you for making me different not just from my brother and sister but from my brothers and sisters in Christ so that we can use our different skills collectively to do the job you made us for. Amen
