Matthew 14: 22-33 v “But Peter when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me. Lord!” he shouted.”
Jesus wanted time alone to pray. He told the disciples to go by boat and the people to go home. It got dark and Jesus was alone on the mountain. Meanwhile the disciples were in trouble on the boat due to strong winds and waves. It would still have been dark at three o clock in the morning, but they were awake on deck and looked out to see a ghost walking towards them on the water. Terrified, Peter looked more closely and thought it was Jesus! So, he called out if it is you Jesus tell me to walk out towards you. Jesus called Peter. Peter got out of the boat and walked towards Jesus. However, fear of the wind and waves took over and Peter began to sink. Save me. Lord!” he shouted.” Jesus immediately reached out to save Peter. They both climbed back into the boat and the winds died down. The disciples worshipped Jesus.

Sometimes we need the busyness in our lives to stop for a moment so that we can take a breath. To clear our heads, so that we can continue. Jesus understands this as He too wanted time alone. The human side. Next, we see Him walking on water in strong wind and waves. The God side. He even has the power to help others defy the rules of gravity with Him. If they believe. Peter’s logical side got the better of him and he began to sink. Jesus reached out without hesitation to save Peter. They both got back into the boat and the winds died down.
The God side of miracles in just that it comes from God. In His time and for His glory. His power. Like Peter, I know He can do anything, but I am sinking in the practicality of the turmoil around me to have the confidence to step out of the boat and walk on water. To answer His call to join Him.
Prayer: Holy God, strengthen our faith so that we can answer the call of Jesus to walk with Him knowing that if we sink, He will reach out to us. Amen.
