Mathew 16: 13- 20 v 17 “Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because the Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.”
Jesus asked the disciples “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” He then asked, “who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered,” You are the Messiah, the son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because the Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.” Jesus changed Simon son of John’s name to Peter ( which means rock) . Jesus said He would give Peter the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Anything permitted or forbidden by him will be the same on earth and in heaven.
Trust the good people in your life to have your back. To support you when you are in trouble and rejoice with you when you are OK because God wants the best for you. Jesus experienced the care that God had for him on earth through Peter who He named the rock. Jesus recognized that the comforting words, could only have come from God. After all who doesn’t want someone in their life who truly understands who they are? As Christians we have this tremendous support network. God is always looking out for us; Jesus is our brother and now we have Peter fully human in heaven who has the keys that let us into the Kingdom of Heaven. Someone with a deep understanding of life on earth with Jesus at his side.
Prayer: Holy God who sent you son Jesus to save us, we are also thankful for the people around us who support us like Peter, those who are our rock in life. Amen.
