Exodus 33: 12-23v 13 “If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor.”
One day Moses said “You have told me “I know your name, and I look favorably on you. If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor.” The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you Moses, and I will give you rest- everything will be fine for you.” The Lord agreed to make all His goodness pass before Moses, but not see His face. Moses was to stand in a rock crevice, the Lord passed by protecting Moses from seeing His face.
Throughout the Old Testament God had a personal relationship with certain people who he called by name, Moses being one of them. Moses as we see here wanted a greater understanding of who God was so he could maintain this favorable relationship. We see later in the next chapter that after spending time with God “when Moses came down from Mount Sinai his face had become radiant, and it made the people afraid to come near him.

I have met several people who have a radiance about them, a calm self-assurance, that comes with knowing God. Ordinary people who walk closely with God. There are others who are more internationally known, Billy Graham, Mother Teresa for example who by their understanding of God have changed the world around them. There are organizations I have worked with too, such as the Mennonite Central Committee and Canadian Foodgrains Bank that because they are embedded with an understanding of what God wants for this world radiate peace and love. I expect you can think of others . Understanding God more fully changes us.
Prayer: Heavenly Father as Moses asked long ago help us to understand you more fully. Amen.
