Strength and Vision

Deuteronomy 34: 1-12 v 7 “Moses was 120 years old when he died, yet his eyesight was clear, and he was as strong as ever.”

Then Moses went up Mount Nebo and the Lord showed him the whole land. All the land of Judah extending to the Mediterranean Sea.” Then the Lord said” This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Issac, and Jacob.” I have now allowed you to see it with your own eyes, but you will not enter the land. So, Moses died there, and the Lord buried him. Moses was 120 years old when he died, yet his eyesight was clear, and he was as strong as ever.” There has never been another prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. With mighty power, Moses performed terrifying acts in the sight of all Israel.

There are current philosophies that talk about the circle of life, and in other places in the bible it says there is nothing new, it has all been done before but here we see the description of the end of Moses’s life, and a summary of his life spent meeting with God face to face like no one had done before or since in the Old Testament. There is no historical record of Moses other than the bible, archaeological findings that Moses existed, but as trust is put more in the passing of information orally as in early civilizations writing was limited to a few rich people the story of Moses becomes real. Meeting God face to face has physical repercussions. Moses’ face shone brightly. Even though he was 120years old he remained strong and clear-sighted. I have seen it too,  as I treat many old people who had broken bodies but eyes that shone when they sang God’s praise,  or talked passionately about God as they encouraged me to read the bible from cover to cover.

There has never been another prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face.” Deuteronomy 34 v 10

Moses may have been unique but the transformation of even the old can be seen in those made strong by faith and clear sited.

Prayer: Heavenly Father who loves all who seek to meet you face to face, thank you for the strength and clear vision that comes as part of our faith in you. Amen.
