Matthew 22: 34-46 v 36 “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”
42 “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son, is he?”
45” Since David called the Messiah “My Lord”, how can the Messiah be his son?”
The Pharisee’s and the Sadducees were both influential people in Jewish religious circles. The Pharisee’s were concerned about all the small details of the law and their entire lives were spent keeping theses strict rules to the best of their understanding. The Sadducees inherited wealth and the position of superiority and were the dominant political force. Jesus silenced the Sadducees. The Pharisees then got together to try and trap him. They asked the question Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” And from that we have the great reply” Love God, Love your neighbor.” Then Jesus turned the tables on the Pharisees who were surrounding Him. What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son, is he?” They replied “He is the son of David” Jesus then used the laws they were so familiar with to ask another question. ” Since David called the Messiah “My Lord”, how can the Messiah be his son? “No one could answer Him. And after that, no one dared to ask Him any more questions.
There are always times in our lives when we are asked tricky questions. Mum since you believe in the bible what do you think about dinosaurs and evolution theories? Why did someone have to die when they did? Why do some families have so many hardships and others few? Why does God allow wars? Even the top scholars of our day and politicians have a hard time answering these questions. How do we as ordinary people still have hope for each other and the world? The answer simply is our belief I Jesus, the son of God. Who was able to silence both the politicians and the scholars of his time. Turn to pray this week. Find a quiet time to be alone with God and the worries of this world will be silenced.

Prayer: Heavenly God, we thank you for your love for us. For the wisdom we find in your teachings and the hope that is always in our hearts. Amen.
