Fat v Scrawny Sheep!

Ezekiel 34: 11-16, 20-24 v 16 “I will search for my lost ones who strayed away, and I will bring them safely home again. I will bandage the injured and strengthen the weak. But I will destroy those who are fat and powerful, I will feed then yes- feed them justice.”

The sovereign Lord says, “I myself will search and find my sheep. I will bring them back home. I will search for my lost ones who strayed away, and I will bring them safely home again. I will bandage the injured and strengthen the weak. But I will destroy those who are fat and powerful, I will feed then yes- feed them justice.” I will surely judge between the fat sheep and the scrawny sheep. I will judge between one animal and another. I will set over them one shepherd, my servant David. And I the Lord will b their God, and my servant David will be prince among my people. I the Lord have spoken.”

“Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will surely judge between the fat sheep and the scrawny sheep. ” Ezekiel 34 v 20

God never asks us to do something that He wouldn’t do Himself. Here we see God searching for His sheep, bandaging the injured and strengthening the weak. Those who were made fat by pushing and crowding out the weak will be judged. Having grown up in the UK where sheep are plentiful in the fields it is an image I can relate to. News articles about sheep having to be rescued occurred on a regular basis. (I just googled lost sheep in the news and found a sheep rescue this month!!) I also have the images of Shaun the sheep and his friends in my head too, the scrawny Shaun and his fatter friends! And the Shepherd invariably with his dog, herding the sheep from the pastures into a pen to keep them safe.

God has expectations so join Him in searching, and looking after His sheep, and standing up for justice.

Prayer: Almighty God thank you for showing us what you want us to do in this world. Give us the strength and vision to find your sheep and stand up for justice in the world today. Amen.
