Watch

Mark 13: 24- 37 v 35 “You too must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the house will return- in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or a t daybreak.”

The sun will be darkened, the moon will give no light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.” Then everyone will see the Soon of Man coming. He will send his angels to gather his chosen ones from all over the world.” And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert. The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip and told his servants to watch for his return. You too must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the house will return- in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or a t daybreak.” Watch for Him!

At this time of waiting for Christmas day counting down the days, our sense of anticipation grows. We know the day when Christ was born. But this reminder to watch for His coming comes with the advice to do His work whilst we are watching for His return. So, when you are waiting in lines longer than normal at the grocery store, pray for those around you. When you are waiting to get out of the parking lot or in slower traffic look out the window for the wonders of nature around you and give thanks. Whilst you are travelling to visit family and friends but on some Christmas music and sing a familiar Christmas carol, worship God. Watch for Him!

“When he left home , he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return.” Mark 13 v 34b

Prayer: Almighty God who gave us the wonderful seasons, the bright winter sun, and the cool winter air, we thank you. We ask that you bring peace and reconciliation to families as they meet over the Christmas season and heal those who have experienced sadness and heartbreak this year. Fill our hearts with gladness as we go out into today. Amen.
