Genesis 1:1-5 v 2 “The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.”
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.” The God said, “Let there be light.” God called the light “day” and the darkness” night.” And evening passed and morning came, making the first day.

For Christians this is the beginning of our creation story. It started with God, land, and water. The Spirit of God hovered over the water. Then he commanded the light to appear, and the cycles of our days began, morning led to evening, the end of the first day. And the cycle of day and night continues for us all. There is a beginning and an end to our lives on earth, with the Spirit of God hovering around us just as on the first day. Step confidently into each day this week knowing the spirit surrounds you, as evening passes and the morning comes, a new day.
Holy God thank you being with us as the rhythm of our days continues in the New Year. Open us to the light that is good in all we do. Amen.
