Acts 19 :1-7 v 5 “As soon as they heard this they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.”
Paul travelled into the interior regions until he reached Ephesus, on the coast. He asked, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit?” “No, they replied, “We haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” They were baptized by John. John himself told of the one who would come later , meaning Jesus. As soon as they heard this they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. The Holy Spirit came on them. There were about twelve men in all.

Can you imagine not having heard of the Holy Spirit? I am reading a book now on prophecy and find some of the descriptions of how people were praying, overcome by the holy, kneeling with their forehead touching the ground amazing to contemplate. Also, a little strange at the same time. I feel I am being “wild” when I lift my hands up to God! This group of believers however were truly open to God, they just had to add “more tools” to their toolbox of Christian beliefs. They were committed, not one or two but twelve men (maybe more if women and children were counted!). Think about your baptism or a time you had reaffirmed your faith in public. Thank God for the opportunity!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for all those who have helped in educating us about our faith, our God and our community. Encourage us to respond immediately to the power of the Holy Spirit as it guides us. Amen.
