Stairway to Heaven

John 1: 43-51v 46 “Nazareth!” exclaimed Nathanael. “Can anything good come from Nazareth?”

The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Phillip and said” Come follow me” Phillip then went to find Nathanael. We have found the great prophet, Jesus, from Nazareth. “Nazareth!” exclaimed Nathanael. “Can anything good come from Nararath?” Come see for yourself. Jesus said “Now here is a genuine son of Israel- a man of complete integrity. “How do you know me?” Jesus replied, “I saw you under the fig tree.” Nathanael exclaimed “Rabbi, you are the Son of God- The King of Israel.” Then he said” I tell you the truth, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down on the Son of Man, the one who is the stairway between heaven ad earth.”

“The he said ” I tell you the truth.” John 1 v 51

John is showing us here the beginning of Jesus’s ministry and how the disciples were chosen. We see the confidence from Phillip who when Jesus spoke directly to him, he immediately became a follower, and then went to find his friend. Jesus knew Nathanael was a man of complete integrity. However, when Philip spoke to him first said. “Can anything good come from Nararath?”  Can you see yourself here or do you have cynical friends with preconceived ideas too? Jesus demonstrated his supernatural powers to Nathanael, and he believed. Then Jesus prophesied, that the disciples would be witness to even greater things, to see Jesus as a direct connection between heaven and earth in the form of a stairway and to see angels! That’s what life is like believing in Jesus, being aware of supernatural powers, and having a direct connection between earth and the spiritual world. Be confidant like Nathaneal in your belief today that great things will continue to happen in your life journey with Jesus.

Prayer: Holy God who sent us Jesus so that we could experience the stairway to heaven, a connection between earth and heaven, we thank you. Know that when we contemplate your word we make that connection and guide us in all we do throughout our day. Amen.
