Mark 1: 14 -20 17 “Jesus called out to them.” Come, follow me and I will show you how to fish for people!”
Later on, Jesus went into Galilee where He preached God’s Good News. “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!” One day as He was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew who fished for a living. “Jesus called out to them.” Come, follow me and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and followed Him. Jesus saw James and John repairing their nets. He called them at once and they also followed Him.
Jesus had just been baptized by John and He started to preach. “The Kingdom of God is near!” What an understatement. The King was walking among His people. But He did not walk alone for long. He gathered to Him with a simple word “Come” and four hard working men followed Him. They left their work and their families to learn to fish for men.

It was a humbling experience for me meeting men and women who had left family for months and sometimes years to follow Jesus to parts of this world where people do not know the love of Christ as part of an intentional Missionary group. To see God transforming communities based on a belief that all our made in the image of God and all people are important. Jesus started His ministry recruiting Simon and Andrew, then James and John with a simple word come! We know he went on to call others and in the early church we see women also being a part of ministry, look up Pheobe and Junia in Romans 16. What is God calling you to do? Come and join with others to learn how to fish for people.
Prayer: Heavenly Father open our ears to hear your voice calling come. Teach us how to fish for people. Amen.
