Genesis 9: 8-17 v 16 “When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.”
God told Noah and His sons, “I hereby confirm my covenant with you and your descendants, and with all the animals that were on the boat with you- the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals- every living creature on earth. Never again will floodwaters kill all people. I am giving you a sign. I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature. God said “Yes, this rainbow is the sign”.
Covenant from the Miriam Webster Dictionary means: a written agreement or promise usually under seal between two or more parties especially for the performance of some action.

Knowing this story about the promise between God and all living creatures has made the rainbow more than a reflection of the sun on rain but a sign of hope for all living creatures on the earth. As a rainbow requires there to be rain, they often appear after a storm, we experience something that could be frightening, I know a few dogs and people who hide under the bed in a storm! The skies clear and out of the clouds comes a rainbow. A message from God. Like all things in our faith, it is not just a promise but requires action as well. It reminds God that He will not destroy all living creatures again. Even though there are many storms raging in this world today, the sign of the rainbow reminds God, He will not destroy all. To watch for other signs of how His people are living the love He has shown us. In a smile, in a hug , in giving to those in need. Give God a sign today of your covenant with Him.
Prayer: Heavenly Father who watches us every day, thank you for the sign of a rainbow. Please accept the sign of our covenant with you, a loving gesture to others. Amen.
