Name changer!

Genesis 17: 1-7, 15-16 v 5 “What’s more I am changing your name. It will no longer be Abram. Instead, you will be called Abraham.

V15 “Then God said to Abraham, “Regarding Sarai, your wife- her name will no longer be Sarai, from now on her name will be Sarah.”

When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to him and said “I will make a covenant with you, by which I will guarantee to give you countless descendants. What’s more I am changing your name. It will no longer be Abram. Instead, you will be called Abraham. Your descendants will become many nations, and Kings will among them, confirming this covenant from generation to generation. Then God said to Abraham, “Regarding Sarai, your wife- her name will no longer be Sarai, from now on her name will be Sarah.” And I will bless her and give you a son from her.

“And I will bless her and give you a son from her!” Genesis 17 v 16

One of the hardest things for me about having children was giving them a name. My children are carrying on our names as they name their own children. A blessing from God! Children today are changing their names, and we see here that God also changes names!  It is important to have a name that reflects who you are. And that is why God changes names. To reflect who you are spiritually, and the job you are faithfully doing for Him.

Does your name reflect your spiritual self? How would others describe you? Showing love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control? (Galatians 5 v 22-23)

Prayer: Heavenly Father who has a place for us in heaven, help us to express our spirituality on this earth as well by being named with the gifts of the spirit. Amen.
