Psalm 19 v 3 “They speak without a sound or word; there voice is never heard.”

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat. The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart, are clear and give insight to living, lasting forever. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O lord, my rock, and my redeemer.

“The sun rises from one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat.” Psalm 19 v 6

In one of my university courses sometimes in the slides that are presented there is a star by a sentence. A reminder that this is important and is very likely to be on the exam. I underline my notes to remind me of this! When reading the bible, I must admit I am not that interested in the footnotes, but God has a reason that is clear and gives insight. In the footnotes for this psalm for verse 19:3 it says, “There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.” This helped me understand the universality of the language of the natural world. The sky and the sun can be seen everywhere on the earth. Is it surprising that God would use it as a universal language to show his love? How often have you admired a sunset or sunrise or beautiful cloud formation. No speech, but no place where their voice is not heard.

Prayer: Holy God maker of heaven and earth thank you for the joy found in creation especially the changing voice of the sun in the sky. Thank you for all the words found in the bible that help us to understand you and live according to your rules. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

“The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul.” Psalm 19 v 7
