Tongues of Fire

Sunday Acts 2: 1-21v 3”They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.”

It was Pentecost and all eleven disciples were together in one place. Suddenly a loud wind came and filled the house. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit, they spoke in different languages. The sound drew a crowd around the house and they heard the desciples speaking, praising the Lord, in their own language. Some said they were drunk although it was only nine in the morning. Peter stood up and said, no, it was the Holy Spirit, as predicted by Joel 2: 28-32.

Utterly amazed they asked:” aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?” Acts 2 v 7

Scientists are predicting dire consequences for the world due to climate change and we are seeing signs that the Church is crumbling as most traditional denominations are closing more church buildings than they are planting new. But just as I feel although I am in retirement I am not done yet, God is not done yet either. There are large community churches with families and children attending and learning about the word of God. Faithful missionaries around the globe learning different languages to be able to spread the word. And good people where you live who will help you on your faith journey. Look for the wind and fire of Pentecost, to the prophets of today, to a local group near you filled with the Holy Spirit, There word is true.

Prayer: Almighty God who came on that first Pentecost with thunderous wind and fire ignite in us the flame of the Holy Spirit to live and work for your glory. Amen.
