David King of Israel

2 Samuel5: 1-5, 9-10 v  4“David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for forty years in all.”

David gradually increased his power and his kingdom, and eventually the tribes of Israel went to him and asked him to be their king. So there at Hebron King David made a covenant with the Lord and the elders of Israel and became King. David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for forty years in all. David then led his troops to Jerusalem to fighth the Jebusites but they taunted him. “You’ll never  get in here! Even the blind and the lame could keep you out.” But David captured the fortress of Zion, which is now called the city of David. And David became more and more powerful, because the Lord God of Heavens armies was with him.

“”The Lord God of heavens armies was with him.” 2 Samuel 5 v 10b.

Most of us in our everyday lives don’t fight and kill people to allow God’s truth to reign where we live. As society continues to develop, we do encounter more and more people who have alternate beliefs and customs. There is conflict between neighbours as some want to develop where we live and others want to keep it as it was. David gives us an example or persistence in times of trouble, victory against the odds. Why? Because the Lord of armies was with him. Next time you are fighting for what you believe in ask the Lord of armies to help out. Like David He will be with you for a long time!

Prayer: Heavenly Father we thank you for being with us as we fight for our beliefs, in the name of Jesus. For standing by and giving us the tools we need to succeed in your name. Amen.
