Rock and Moon!

Psalm 89: 20-37 v 26 And he will call out to me, “You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.”

My faithfulness and unfailing love will be with him, and by my authority he will grow in power.  And he will call out to me, “You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.”  My covenant with him will never end. His throne will be as endless as the days of heaven. If they fail to obey my regulations I will punish them, but I will never stop loving them. It will be as eternal as the moon, my faithful witness in the sky.

I live in a gravel pit. Whenever I dig my garden there are stones, always stones around where I want to plant my vegetables or flowers. There is also sand, we were able to fill a sandbox for our grandchildren to play in from sand in our backyard. And sometimes even during the day you can see the moon if you lookup into the sky. I can relate to this passage. The psalmist is talking about King David, the Jewish line of leaders that is still present today. But it is a message for all the faithful followers of Jesus who call out to Him. Like the rocks in my garden, He is solid, but like the sand He will punish those who do not follow His commands. As a loving parent disciplines a child, softly like sand keeping us close, surrounding us with love, holding us together. Then as we look up we see the moon, shining brightly at night and still there during the day, effecting us on the earth by its power as the tides go in and out as our call to God is sometimes a loud shout and sometimes a soft whisper.

“It will be as eternal as the moon, my faithful witness in the sky.” Psalm 89 v 37

Prayer: Heavenly Father who looks on us with love guide our hearts and minds to your ways as the moon guides the tides. Amen.
