An understanding heart!

1 Kings 2:10-12,3:3-14 v 9 “Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong.”

David had reigned over Israel for forty years. Solomon became King and sat on the throne of David his father, and his kingdom was firmly established. Solomon loved the Lord and followed all the degrees of his father David. That night the Lord appeared to David in a dream, and God said “What do you want? Ask and I will give it to you!” Solomon replied you showed a great love to David when he was alive and now by giving his son the throne. I am but a child who doesn’t know his way around. Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. The Lord was pleased with Solomon and said, “I will give you a wise and understanding heart and riches and fame and if you follow all my degrees a long life.”

“And if you follow me and obey my commands as your father David did, I will give you a long life.” 1 Kings 3 v 14

There are many different responsibilities we have in our lives. Some stress us out even though they are fun like vacations and celebrations such as weddings and birthdays. Some things have to be done like laundry and house cleaning, work and eating and exercise. We all have a kingdom over which we have influence and rule. It might be as small as one or a large family or an entire community. What would we wish for to be the best ruler of our Kingdom? Solomon gives us the answer. Follow God’s decrees and rule with His wisdom!

Prayer: Heavenly Father please give us all an understanding heart to do your work and help those around us today. Amen.
