Song of Songs / Solomon: 2:8-13 v 12 “The flowers are springing up, the season of singing birds (or pruning vines) has come, and the cooing of turtle doves fills the air.”
Ah, I hear my lover coming! Bounding over he hills, like a swift gazelle or a young stag. He is behind the wall peering into the room. Come away with me my fair one! The flowers are springing up, the season of singing birds (or pruning vines) has come, and the cooing of turtle doves fills the air. Come away with me my fair one.
I hope we have all been there, waiting for a lover to return, we become sensitive to the sounds, the smells, around us. For me most recently it was at the airport, my husband had been away for a couple of weeks, I saw him first walking towards the doors, then coming through then we hugged, what a lovely hug that was. We need human connection. I remember first seeing family after the COVD lock downs and giving my husbands cousin a big hug that surprised us both. Almost two years without that connection with extended family! On a human level this poem describes our need for each other in a physical way.

Song of Songs 2 v 13b
As in any poem there can also be deeper meanings, about the relationship with us and God. A physical need and attraction as God invites us to come away with Him! A need in all of us that is exciting and anticipates a mutual physical response. As we sing praises to God our hearts rejoice and are glad. Whenever our springtime approaches, as God peeks through the wall and calls us home, we leave this world for life everlasting!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for the many relationships in our lives that connect us with physical love. For your love that makes us whole and for the promise of life everlasting with you. Amen.
