Proverbs 22;1-2, 8-9, 22-23v 1 “Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold.”
The rich and poor have this in common, the Lord made them both. Those who plant injustice will harvest disaster. Blessed are those who feed the poor, who don’t rob them, for the Lord is their defender.

Many bible scholars have debated the truth in the bible, acknowledged the contradictions and puzzled at the real-life stories compared with those in the bible. We all know happy rich people and sad poor people although the bible tells us the opposite is true. We all have choices to make that shape who we are and in these verses from Proverbs are practical ways to help us make those choices with a spiritual bias. Using the bible to help guide our everyday choices is always a wise decision if others look at us with high esteem. The Lord made both the rich and the poor says a lot about being happy with where you are in life. Being generous to those in need is also a strong theme throughout the bible as there is a special place in God’s heart for the poor. Make choices today that reflect your beliefs in a loving God, and you will have a good day with the Lord as your defender!
Prayer: Holy God who loves us all but especially those who are generous towards the poor, help us to choose your ways in all things for a better world. Amen.
