Ways to learn

Mark 9: 30 – 37 v 30 b – 31a “Jesus didn’t want anyone to know He was there, for He wanted to spend more time with His disciples and teach them.”

The son of man is going to be betrayed into the hands o His enemies. They didn’t understand what He was saying, however, they were afraid to ask Him what He meant. Jesus asked His disciples, “What were you discussing out on the road?” They did not answer. He sat down, called the disciples over to Him, and said, “Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be a servant of everyone else.” Then He put a child among them. “Anyone who welcomes a little child like this welcomes me and my Father who sent me.

How do we know that Jesus wants us to learn certain things? We can look at how He behaved towards His disciples. He wanted to teach them the things they needed for living when He wasn’t there. He repeated information that was important for them to know. He sat down with them in a small group. He used a child to illustrate His point.

One of the delights of being a grandparent is watching your children and grandchildren grow. Seeing your children sitting down with their children and both learning new skills.  I imagine God the Father looking down at His son and enjoying Him teaching His disciples, when you welcome one, you welcome the other!

” Taking the child in His arms He said to them…..” Mark 9 v 36b

Prayer: Heavenly God who came as a servant to teach us your everlasting love, we thank you for the many ways you listen to us and answer our prayers. Help us to learn the true heart required to be a servant to all. Amen.
