Mourning into joy!

Esther 7: 1-6, 9-10; 9:20-22 v 2b the king again said to Esther, “Tell me want you want Queen Esther. What is your request? I will give it to you even if it is half the kingdom!”

The King and Haman went to Queen Esther’s banquet for a second time. The king again said to Esther, “Tell me want you want Queen Esther. What is your request? I will give it to you even if it is half the kingdom! “I ask that my life and the lives of my people will be spared. For my people and I have been sold to those who would kill, slaughter, and annihilate us.  Who would do such a thing? King Xerxes demanded. Esther replied, “ This wicked Haman is our adversary and enemy.”  Harbona, one of the Kings eunuchs, said” Haman has set up a pole that stands seventy-five feet tall in his own courtyard. ““Then impale Harman on it!” The king ordered. Mordecai recorded these events and sent letters to the Jews near and far, throughout all the provinces of King Xerxes. He told them to celebrate, as their sorrow was turned into gladness and their mourning into joy.

Esther gained favor with the King so that He offered to give her half his kingdom. However, she had a godly request to make not a worldly request. She asked that her life and those of her people be saved, in front of the man, Haman, who was the problem. Others around the king, Harbona, gave the king advice that helped him decide what to do. Mordecai recorded the events and still to this day the Jewish people celebrate in the spring with a happy joyous festival.

“This would celebrate a time when the Jews gained relief from their enemies, when their sorrow was turned into gladness and their mourning into joy.” Esther 9 v 22b.

With godly instruction our hearts can be like Esther’s, focused on the bigger picture of godly wants and needs rather than our own. If you are struggling with an enemy in this world. Look to godly people for advice and help. With God all things can be turned from mourning into joy!

Prayer: Heavenly Father thank you that you give us hope in our down time, godly friends to help us and a heart set on your kingdom rather than this world. Help us today to turn our mourning into joy, in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
