Divorce and Marriage

Mark: 10: 2- 16 v 8” and the two are united into one. Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.”

Some Pharisees came and tried to trap Him with this question: should a man be allowed to divorce his wife? Moses permitted it “He wrote that a man could give his wife a written notice of divorce and send her away.” Jesus responded, “he wrote this commandment as a concession to your heard hearts. God made man male and female. This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife and the two are united into one. Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.”

One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so He could touch and bless them. Jesus said” The Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. Then He took the children in His arms and placed His hands on their heads and blessed them.”

Jesus, who is love, understood the hearts of the Pharisees who were not loving, they wanted to trap Him. He emphasized that with Him things were different than with Moses because His love in our hearts is greater than any mans’. If two people due to their love for each other leave their father and mother and are joined together let no one split them apart. A man or a woman who divorces and remarries commits adultery. Life experienced as a child, is to be blessed. Sometimes we make things more complicated than they need to be. Even stats Canada says that marriage is stronger now than it has ever been, with divorces of married people the lowest for many years.  Jesus is asking what do you believe? I believe marriage needs work and sometimes it is not ideal, but that love grows and changes over time as two people become one. Let Jesus bless your marriage as he blessed the children.

“This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife.” Mark 10 v 7

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for those who make the decision to be married and we ask you to bless them as they grow together. Help us to support the relationship whether new or old in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
