Mark 10: 35-45v 43 “But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.”
James and John, brothers came over and spoke to Jesus. “Teacher, they said “we want you to do us a favor.” When you sit on your throne, we want to be in places of honor with you, one on your right and the other on your left. Jesus asked if they will be baptized with suffering? Oh yes, they replied. He replied, “only God can decide.” When the others heard what James and John had asked, they were indignant. Jesus called them all together. “The rulers of this world Lord it over their people, and the officials flaunt their authority. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

Jesus turned the world He lived in upside down. Unlike the ruling kings of the day, he said that His rule would be different. His choice to be king was to give His life for His people. And it seemed that disciples James and John got that message too.
Have you found the upside-down world of Jesus in this world? When have you said, how am I going to get through this? And found a friend who helped, a change in the weather that changed your schedule from overwhelmed too manageable. As we give up our lives to serve others, we find Jesus is there too.
Prayer: Holy God who made all things we thank you for the opportunities to serve others and in loosing ourselves we find your son Jesus. Amen.
