Love and Laws

Ruth 1: 1-18 v 14 “And again they wept together, and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law good-bye. But Ruth clung tightly to Naomi. “

Due to a famine in Israel a man let his home and went to live in Moab. The man was married to Naomi, and they had two sons who married Moabite women. Naomi’s husband died and ten years later both husbands were killed. Naomi was left without a husband or any sons to look after her. She decided to return to Israel. Both daughters-in-law were told to return to their families and marry again. They wept then said no, they would go with Naomi. Naomi pointed out the laws and said her life is bitter because the Lord has raised His fist against me, not for you. And again they wept together, and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law good-bye. But Ruth clung tightly to Naomi. When Naomi saw, that Ruth was determined to go with her, she said nothing more.

Life for Naomi was decided by her husband and security in her old age was guaranteed by having two sons. However, events occurred to change that as both her husband and her sons died. Naomi was left with no choice but to return to her homeland of Israel.  one of her daughters-in-law followed the laws and although sad to do so went back to her family. Ruth, however, held onto the love and belief system of her mother-in-law and clung to her.

Let love and our God guide your days like Ruth.

But Ruth replied “Don’t ask me to leave and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live.” Ruth 1 v 16
