Where is your Jerusalem?

Psalm 132: 1-18 v 7 “Let us go to the sanctuary of the Lord; let us worship at the footstool of His throne.”

David made a promise to the Lord, “I will not go home; I will not let myself rest. I will not ley my eyes sleep nor close my eyes in slumber until I find a place to build a house to the Lord, a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel. Let us go to the sanctuary of the Lord; let us worship at the footstool of His throne. The Lord swore an oath to David with a promise He will never take back, obey by covenant and my laws then your royal line will continue for ever and ever. I will bless the city and make it prosperous; its faithful servants will sing for joy.

“This is my resting place forever”, He said, ” I will live here for this is the home I desired.” Psalm 132 v 14

There is a well-known that was part of my upbringing in the UK called Jerusalem. A poem by William Blake written in 1808, put to music in 1916 by Sir Hubert Parry. It is based on a couple of stories either an oral tradition of the time when Jesus was a boy who travelled to Glastonbury in the Uk with Joseph of Arimathea or older written accounts of Joseph of Anathema visiting the UK after Jesus’s death. This is what the psalmist is saying is important for us all, to not rest until we have reached our goal, to build a house for the Lord, to be faithful and obey His covenant and His laws and sing for joy!

Where is your Jerusalem? Do not rest until you have found a place where you can find God and sing for joy!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for the wonderful words of the bible that give us new Insight every day for our lives. Guide each one of us to our Jerusalem and to your worship. Amen.
