John and Jesus

Luke3:15-22v 16 “ John answered their questions by saying ,”I baptize you with water; but someone is coming soon who is greater than I am – so much greater that I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of His sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.”

John used warnings to the people that He will separate the chaff from the wheat. John also publicly criticized Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee. Herod put John in prison. One day when the crowds were being baptized Jesus himself was baptized. The Holy Spirit descended on Him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said” You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.” John was a radical who dressed differently and lived in the wilderness. He told the people they had to make a choice and criticized the local politician who put him in jail. Then Jesus came to be baptized, and stranger things happened, a dove came down from heaven and a voice was heard. Similarly, there seems to be criticisms of those in politics today. Churches that are growing rapidly are outside the traditional models. People are put in prison or being taken hostage due to being different. We should therefore also be looking for signs from God, as we follow like Jesus what He wants us to do, to give Him joy!

” As He was praying, the heavens opened and the Holy Spirit , in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. ” Luke 3 v 21b-22a.

Prayer: Heavenly God, we thank you for the example of your Son, Jesus. Keep us on your path in our daily lives as we look for signs that you are with us. Amen.
