Show me a sign

 Judges 6: 11-24v 17 “Gideon replied, “If you are truly going to help me, show me a sign to prove that it is really the Lord speaking to me.”

The angel of the Lord came and sat beneath the great tree at Ophrah. Gideon, son of Joash, was threshing wheat there. The angel of the Lord said, “Mighty hero, the Lord is with you.” Gideon then said the Lord has abandoned us. Then the Lord turned to him and said” Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” Gideon replied, “If you are truly going to help me, show me a sign to prove that it is really the Lord speaking to me.” Then the angel of the Lord touched the offering brought by Gideon and fire flamed up from the rock and consumed all he had brought. And Gideon cried out, “I am doomed! “I have seen the angel of the Lord. The Lord replied, “Do not be afraid”.

When going through physical trials it is hard to focus on anything other than your own suffering. To let go of your own physical needs to survive and to think of others. Gideon was focused on survival and felt abandoned by God. However, when God did show up as always when we least expect it, he wanted a sign so that he was sure it was God speaking to him. Then when the sign was given, he cried out” I am doomed” but the words of the loving father came to him “Do not be afraid.” Be thankful today for the loving Father who comes to rescue us and do not be afraid when you see signs of His presence around you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father who is always caring for us although at times we concentrate only on survival. Remind us to praise you in all we do and see the signs that you are working with us. Amen.
