Awestruck!

Luke 5: 1-11v v 9 “For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with them.”

As Jesus was preaching great crowds pressed in on Him to listen to the word of God. Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”  Master, we worked all night and didn’t catch a thing. And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear. “O Lord please leave me- I’m such a sinful man.” For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with them. Jesus replied to Simon,” don’t be afraid! From now on you will be fishing for people.”

” His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed.” Luke 5 v 10

Jesus by himself was gathering large crowds. First, he saw a boat, a practical solution to enable Him to preach to the crowd. He then used a miracle to open the eyes of the fishermen so that they would follow Him. They were awestruck by the number of fish they caught. He then used the situation to outline the job He had for the fishermen, to fish for men. Somewhere in our faith journeys we are awestruck by the power of Christ. We start to hear and understand the words of Christ as in the crowd and are shown small practical solutions to problems that arise – and either slowly over time or suddenly in one amazing moment our belief in Jesus is absolute and we have to share with others our faith as we strive to do the work that Jesus has appointed us for. And the peace that cannot be described is ours! And we are awestruck again!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for your son, Jesus Christ and the direction He has for our lives. For the awestruck moments that occur when He is with us. Amen.
