Josuah 4: 19-24 V 20 “It was there at Gilgal that Joshua piled up the twelve stones taken from the Jordan river.”
The people crossed the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month (late March, April or early May) It was there at Gilgal that Joshua piled up the twelve stones taken from the Jordan river. In the future your children will ask “What do these stones mean?” Then you can tell them ‘This is where the Israelites crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’ The Lord God dried it up until we had all crossed over. He did this to show that the Lord’s hand is powerful, and so you might fear the Lord your God forever.

Hanging around with my young grandchildren I find they ask lots of questions. As we talk about the things we see around us like when they were building a new road, my grandson asked, “Where did the old one go?” God knows how we live and uses illustrations that are as familiar today as they were two thousand years ago. As you observe the world with your children they will ask questions. What symbols of the Lord do you have around you today that remind you that the Lord’s hand is powerful? So that we might fear, or respect, the Lord forever?
Prayer: Heavenly Father who understands the world you created for us help us to keep our eyes on the symbols that show us your power forever. Amen.
