Road to the Cross

                             The start

Luke 19: 29-40 v 37 “When He reached the place where the road started down the Mount of Olives, all of His followers began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen.”

“Go into the village over there “He told them. “As you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. So, they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it for Him to ride on. As He rode along, the crowds spread out their garments on the road ahead of Him. When He reached the place where the road started down the Mount of Olives, all of His followers began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen. But some of the Pharisees among the crowd said” Teacher, rebuke your followers for saying things like that!” He replied, “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers.”

We all will experience the last week of our lives. Today is the start of the story of what the followers who believed in Jesus experienced as the last week of His life on earth as a human. By this time His disciples followed his commands without question. They asked a practical question, knowing Jesus would give the answer they needed to get the job done. “The disciples simply replied, “The Lord needs it.” I was at a hockey game this past week and regularly throughout the game the crowd began to sing and cheer together as our team scored a goal. Jesus’ followers felt the same as they remembered the miracles He had done. And the dissenters, those who looked disapprovingly on the cheering crowd? Jesus had an answer for them too. “The stones along the road would burst into cheers!” It is part of who we are, to praise God and that includes all God’s creations, even the stones!

Prayer: Almighty God who created all things we praise you for all the good things you have done in our lives. Thank you! Amen
