Bright stars and candles!

Rev 1: 9-19 v 12 “When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lampstands.”

I, John, was exiled to the Island of Patmos for preaching the word of God and for my testimony about Jesus. I was worshipping in the Spirit. Suddenly, I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet blast. It said” Write a book, send it to the seven churches.” When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lampstands. And standing in the middle was someone like the Son of Man. He held seven stars in his right hand. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

“Suddenly I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet blast.” Revelation 1 v 10b

It started at a hockey game. Behind us was a boy with a large trumpet who made a very loud noise throughout the whole game. It was exciting and the team we had come to watch won. A good time was had by all including my soon- to- be four-year-old grandson who was intrigued by the horn that made a loud noise. He turned around constantly during the game to see where the noise was coming from. And that led to his birthday party where after the traditional singing of happy birthday and blowing out of the candles, his cousins roared with laughter as he blew the horn that was a present.

Then I read this passage in the bible about candles and stars, voices like horns, angels and churches, and found this picture. Putting the two events together I understood that having God in our lives is fun, loud and bright too. God sends angels to lead us, Christ as our example and brightens us with His love for others to see. Have fun today, in the name of Jesus and shine His light on the world!

Prayer: Almighty God who brightens our day with sunshine and love and sometimes loud noises help us to share it with those we meet today. Amen.
