In wisdom you have made them all!

Psalm 104:24-35 v 24: “O Lord what a variety of things you have made! In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your creatures.”

Here is the ocean vast and wide, teeming with life of every kind, both large and small. They all depend on you to give them food as they need it. You open your hand to feed them, and they are richly satisfied. When you give them your breath, life is created, and you renew the face of the earth. Let all sinners vanish from the face of the earth; let the wicked disappear forever. Let all that I am praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!

The opening of this passage takes me back to my childhood, singing the hymn ‘All creatures great and small, The Lord God made them all.” A time when everyone seemed to love God. The psalmist talks of how all the sea creatures live as God opens His hand to feed them, and they are richly satisfied. He also talks of the sinners vanishing and the wicked disappearing. The image that came to my mind with these words was not that they physically vanished and disappeared but that their hearts were changed and thus there were no more sinners or wicked people in the world. Just everyone praising the Lord! What a wonderful idea. Can all humans live like the fishes in the sea, large and small together? What a wonderful image, from a wonderful God. Praise the Lord!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for the wonders of the ocean and ask that we too should live like the fishes in the sea, without sin and without wickedness. Amen.
