My God!

Psalm 63 v 8 “I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely.”

O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings.  I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely. But those plotting to destroy me will come to ruin, while liars will be silenced.

It says in the heading of this psalm that David was in the wilderness of Judah. The picture above of the Judean desert shows us a barren land on the edge of a town. I can imagine David standing on a hill in the wilderness, first looking up to God and raising his hands in praise and prayer. There is very little shadow in the desert, but David understands that God can provide what he needs, singing for joy in the shadow of His wings! He holds tight to God who has a strong right hand. He then looks towards the town and understands that those plotting to destroy him will come to ruin. Ultimately the truth of a loving God is what is important, liars will be silenced!

Prayer: Heavenly Father who made a world with towns and deserts we ask that you hold our hands with your strong right hand as we pray and praise your name and cling to your truth. My God! Hallelujah! Amen.
