Opportunity Cost

Luke 9: 51-62 v 60 “But Jesus told him, “Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and preach about the Kingdom of God.”

Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. He sent messages ahead for a Samaritan village to prepare for His arrival. But the people of the village did not welcome Jesus because He was on His way to Jerusalem. So they went on to another village. As they were walking someone said to Jesus,” I will follow you wherever you go.” But Jesus replied, “ The son of man has nowhere to lay His head.” A man answered Jesus’s call but wanted to bury his father. But Jesus told him, “Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and preach about the Kingdom of God.” Another said, Fist let me say good-bye to my family. But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plough and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.” From an AI source:- In economics, opportunity cost is the value of the next best alternative that is forgone when a choice is made. It represents what is given up when one option is chosen over another, highlighting the concept of scarcity and the trade-offs inherent in decision-making. Essentially, it’s the potential benefit missed by not choosing the alternative.

In both these choices, following Jesus has a cost to the individual and Jesus is saying that whatever the cost, there is more value in following Him than anything else. In concentrating on His path rather than being distracted by the things of this world.

Today is a special day for my family, my daughters wedding day. I hope that today I will be able to continue to follow Jesus whatever the distractions which means for me to be kind and loving , calm and joyful to all, for all in the name of Jesus Christ my savior. Amen.
