Rich Relationship

Luke 12: 13-21 v 21 “Yes a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”

Someone called from the crowd, “Teacher tell my brother to divide our father’s estate with me.”  Jesus replied, “Friend, who made me a judge over you to decide such things as that? Life is not measured by how much you own.” Then He told a story: “A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. He did not know what to do as he had more crops than places to put them. He decided to build bigger barns to hold all the crops, to then take it easy, to eat, drink and be merry! But God said to him, “You fool you will die this very night.” Yes a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.

We know Jesus had a “To do” list because at the end of His life He said, “It is finished.” Here He points out one of the things that was not on that list, helping two rich men sort out their inheritance. The story that followed further explains Jesus’s attitude. It is about a rich man who foolishly chose to hoard his wealth but then did not live to enjoy it. How often have we spent time and energy on foolish things, ignoring the development of a close relationship with God? Jesus acknowledged the voice in the crowd as friend. To have a friendly relationship with God we must share His priorities. Spend time with him and acknowledge the God within us, the energy that ties us together. Jesus is more concerned about us all being God’s friend rather than about our financial health. Take time today to work on your relationship with God, remembering that it is His priority for you, to have a rich relationship with Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for having the time and energy to develop a rich relationship with you through the teachings of your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

The He said,” Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much we own.” Luke 12 v 15
