God’s Word

Jeremiah 23: 23-29 v 29 “Does not my word burn like fire? Says the Lord. “Is it not like a mighty hammer that smashes a rock to pieces?”

“Am I a God who is only close at hand? says the Lord. “No, I am far away at the same time. “I have heard prophets tell lies in my name. By telling these false dreams they are trying to get my people to forget me. Let my true messengers faithfully proclaim every word. Does not my word burn like fire? Says the Lord. “Is it not like a mighty hammer that smashes a rock to pieces?”

“Am I a God who is only close at hand? says the Lord. “No, I am far away at the same time. ” Jeremiah 23 v 23

My grandchildren were given rocks like this which they then enjoyed smashing to pieces. It seemed that they enjoyed the smashing more than the finding of jewels inside as eventually only small pieces of jewels were left. And then the image of burning. My husband likes to have a fire and burn up end pieces of wood, clearing space for new projects. Even controlled burns in forests allow for new growth to emerge. God is telling us not to worry about false prophets who tell lies, little details that derail us from speaking the word to others. Remember the big picture that God loves everyone and is in the big adventures as well. Keep telling others the Good News of the bible whether in a small way to the person you see in a store or in a bigger way reaching to others around the world. God is there, ready to transform lives.

Prayer: Heavenly Father who gives us the tools we need to light a fire or break open the rocks surrounding peoples hearts to show others you love and care for everyone, near or far from you. Amen.
