Changed His mind!

Exodus 32:1, 7-14 v 14 “So the Lord changed His mind about the terrible disaster He had threatened to bring on His people.”

When the people saw how long it was taking Moses to come back down the mountain, they gathered around Aaron. The Lord told Moses, “Quick! Go down the mountain! How quickly they have turned away from the way I told them to live. Now leave me alone so that my fierce anger can blaze against them, and I will destroy them. “Moses said” Turn away from your fierce anger. Change your mind about this terrible disaster you have threatened against your p[people. Remember your promise” to give them all this land and they will possess it forever.” So, the Lord changed His mind about the terrible disaster He had threatened to bring on His people.”

In God’s timing the people quickly turned away from Him, for the people the wait for Moses was long. The Lord wanted to be left alone to His anger, but Moses politely asked Him to change His mind which He did.

” But Moses tried to pacify the Lord his God.” Exodus 32 v 9a

Always the bible shows us the best way to be. We were made in God’s image so we should not be surprised that God gets angry. How easily do we ourselves get angry, often over such small things. Then we enjoy that anger and it grows. But God in relationship with Moses was able to listen and to change His mind. We too should try and listen when we are angry to the council of close family or friends who we know have our interests at the heart of their advice. Changing our minds is not a weakness but a strength as we mirror the behaviour of our God.

Prayer: Heavenly Father help us to see the good in the advice we are given despite our anger. Help us to change our minds to be the best we can be for your glory. Amen.
