Honor of your name

Psalm 138 v I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness; for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name.

I give thanks, O Lord, with all my heart. I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness; for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name. As I pray you answer me; you encourage me by giving me strength. Though the Lord is great He cares for the humble, but he keeps His distance from the proud. The power of your right hand saves me. The Lord will work out His plans for my life.

God, Jesus, Holy Spirit are the simplest names for the one we give thanks and praise to. And in return like in any relationship we are given things, strength and power, as the Lord works out His plan for us. In the middle of this psalm are the words about being humble and not proud. I get so excited when I know I am doing what God has planned for me but in my conviction, I forget the worries of others, the practicalities that take time to get into order, and my attitude becomes anything but the humble peace that God requires. I am however also reminded here about being a child of God, and as I walk around the world with my grandchildren holding their hands to keep them safe, I remember my relationship with God is to be more like a child. I need to trust His right hand to keep me on the right track.

“Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will protect me from the anger of my enemies.” Psalm 138 v 7a

Prayer: Almighty God, we thank you for the simple names you have that remind us of who you are. The one who reaches around the world to save us we ask that we humbly come to you, as you hold our hand and guide our path. Amen.
