Rest or Laziness?

Amos 6: 1-7 v 3 “You push away every thought of coming disaster, but your actions only bring the day of judgement closer.”

What sorrow awaits you who lounge in luxury in Jerusalem. You are famous and popular in Israel, and people go to you for help. But go over to Calneh and see what happened there. You are no better than they were and look at how they were destroyed. You push away every thought of coming disaster, but your actions only bring the day of judgement closer.  You sing trivial songs to the sound of the harp. You care nothing about the ruin of your nation. Suddenly all your parties will end.

A wake-up call! The bible often talks of the importance of rest, but do we lazily sit around? People may know us well where we live but are we indifferent to those in other places? Do we indulge our own desires, not looking to the future and how it will affect future generations. If we do all superficial fun will end!

“You push away every thought of coming disaster.” Amos 6 v3a

Today look deep into your heart for the motivation that directs your actions. Make sure you are coming from a place of love, kindness and thankfulness, not indifference, laziness and self indulgence.

Prayer: Almighty God who looks into our deepest desires guide us to a place of loving kindness and away from self indulgence, laziness and indifference. Amen.
