Habakkuk 1: 1-13, 2: 1-4 v 5. The Lord replied, “Look around at the nations, look and be amazed!”
“Violence is everywhere!” I cry, but you do not come to save. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight. The law has become paralysed, and there is no justice in the courts. The Lord replied, “Look around at the nations, look and be amazed!” I am raising up the Babylonians, a cruel and violent people. Should you be silent while the wicked swallow up people more righteous than they? This vision is for future times. The righteous will live by their faithfulness to God.
It brings to my mind the holocaust. A time when the Jewish people were segregated and put to death in staggering numbers. When a cruel people were raised up and dominated parts of the world for a long time. But even in those dark days there were righteous people who stood up and lived by their faithfulness to God. We must be prepared to be amazed. When the world is going crazy and terrible things are happening, good and therefore God will ultimately prevail. Our job? Has been the same since the world began, to stand up for justice, to help those in need, to believe in a God that is good and sing praises to His name forever!
Prayer: Almighty God who always stands up for those in need, help us to be amazed by your love for us today and always. Amen.
