Happy Thanksgiving

Remember and Obey

Deuteronomy 8 v 6 “So obey the commands of the Lord your God by walking in His ways and fearing Him.”

“Be careful to obey all the commands I am giving you today. Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey His commands. He did it to teach you that that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Think about it” Just as a parent disciplines a child, the Lord your God disciplines you for your own good. So, obey the commands of the Lord your God by walking in His ways and fearing Him. When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.  Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord. Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful. Just as the Lord has destroyed other nations in your path, you will also be destroyed if you refuse to obey the Lord your God.

In the movies there are many people who are selfish and have amazing power for their own needs. Can you name a few? But the power that survives is based on what is good for the Universe, for earth and for all people. In this passage we are reminded of our heritage of the amazing powers of our God who wants only good things for us, to feed us when we are hungry. But we are also warned that when we prosper, we do not forget the God who provided all these things for us. Ultimate our own survival and well being is because of our obedience to God. Whether we live one more day, one more week or one more year, remember to be thankful to the God who provides for our total well being, and obey his commands.

Prayer: Heavenly god whose power is for good in this world help us to remember all that you have done for us as we follow your commands in our journey of life. Amen.
