Hold On to the Basic Teachings of Jesus

2Timothy 3:14-17, 4:5 “But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you.”

The apostle Paul is reminding Timothy to keep the faith that he was taught by his parents and grandparents.  Even with suffering, the Lord will rescue you says Paul.  Don’t be deceived by false teachers. Timothy was one of the first second-generation Christians who learned about God at a very young age. Even though we are surrounded by false teachings, we are to hold on to the basic teachings about Jesus that are eternally true.

I was very fortunate to have spent time with my grandmother when I was young. She would tell me the stories of Jesus and teach me the old hymns like “Tell Me the Stories of Jesus.” It was our special time together and I cherish those memories not that I am in my senior years. It has helped me to remember to spend time in God’s Holy Word as I focus on keeping grounded in a firm foundation of faith. I encourage you to help build your children and grandchildren up with a firm foundation in God’s Word. The children love to hear these wonderful stories and songs. If you are not familiar with these stories and songs, just check our Crosswalk website for some resources or email us and we will send you some.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank you for telling us your stories and helping us to live by Your Word. As parents and grandparents, help us to teach our little loved ones the value of these basic lessons so that they will remember them throughout their lives. Amen.
